I've just been doing a bit of a study on rabbits and what they do, what they like, how many kids they have, etc. There are quite a few rabbit facts I was certainly unaware of!
Most rabbits don't make any noise unless they are extremely frightened. Mama rabbits sometimes make sweet little sounds as they feed their babies. What mom could remain silent during such a special time? There is a rabbit known as the volcano rabbit that supposedly has several different sounds it makes.
Rabbits are prevalent in ancient art, including the Mayan Indians. Europeans hunted them. A lot of the wild rabbit population in Europe today is the result of rabbits escaping from the enclosures where monks kept rabbits as a food source.
Because agriculture is responsible for a lot of deforestation, conditions have been created that are actually favorable to an abundance of rabbits. Believe it or not, there are some rabbits that are actually endangered. They are the ones that are restricted to a certain habitat which is itself endangered. There is a hare in northern India called the hispid hare that is losing its habitat to humans burning land to increase grazing.
There will, I hope, never be a shortage of my sterling silver rabbit pendant or its cousin, the delightful bunny pendant in silver.
