I realize there are no red, black and silver colored turtles in actual fact, but I couldn't let these colors go by without representing them somehow, and design-wise they worked very well with the turtle necklace.
Turtles are delightful animals, mostly all pretty gentle. Of course everyone has their quarrelsome relatives, and the turtle is no exception. Theirs is the alligator snapping turtle and the soft-shelled turtle, both southeastern USA denizens.
But even those guys you've got to appreciate for their uniqueness. I recently took our grand daughter to the Tampa aquarium and saw some of the soft shelled tortoises swimming about a tank. They are really unusual looking with that long snake like neck and snorkel nose. But also rather aesthetic in their own way.
Some people have called my turtle necklaces sea turtle necklaces. I didn't really have a sea turtle in mind when I designed them, but would love to add that reptile to my line of turtle jewelry.
I love the combination of the pewter color with the red and black paint. Sometimes it works well to use the pewter metal as part of the design element, rather than just painting the whole thing.
The other reason I designed the enamel turtle jewelry that way is that I am really able to control the look of the final piece when I can create a little "pool' within the piece to hold the color I've selected.
My red enamel turtle necklace would be a sweet, economical gift for the turtle lover in your life.
