I feel happy to provide a variety of the chocolate lab jewelry to my customers, because it's far more common to find black or yellow lab jewelry. (Or so I'm told) I know whenever a customer at a show asks me if I have any chocolate lab jewelry, they inevitably do it in that resigned tone of voice, expecting failure.
When I say that I most certainly do, they go through several stages. The first is disbelief, followed by suspicion (How much is it?) followed by relief, which sometimes reverts back to disbelief before they actually pull out their credit card. I enjoy this, and especially like seeing the color return to their cheeks as they walk away with their purchase.
Being the Magic Zoo artist is a little like being Santa Claus to the world at large. I have all these little surprises waiting to be discovered! To me, that was always the best part of the holiday season anyway. Sure I like being surprised by wonderful things, but the anticipation of seeing someone else unlock a surprise-well, for my money there's nothing better! Even when I was a kid I had this impulse. I remember the first pair of earrings every made by my hands. It was a couple of acorns glued on the back of some screw on mechanisms. My mother feigned delight, and I was thrilled.
And so I offer this enamel chocolate lab necklace for the person in your life (maybe it's you) who deserves a surprise.
