Dachshund and Veterinary Caduceus Name Badge
A dachshund is a hound who hunts badgers and since there seem to be a lot more dachshunds around than badgers, I think this little dog has been quite successful. Their body shape must relate to the need to follow a badger down a hole. A dirt tunnel like that around here would probably lead one's tender dog nose smack into the hard shell of a gopher tortoise.
As a veterinarian, the caduceus is undoubtedly a familiar symbol to you. Technically speaking the symbol would have two snakes wrapped around the staff to be called a caduceus. The single snake version is one that goes back to Greece and a school of healing that not only took care of the body but also worked (not very successfully) to address the mental factors contributing to the illness.
I once knew a woman who could talk silently with animals and did considerable help with behavioral problems in pets stemming from bad experiences they'd had or from various irrational fears, angers, etc. that the pets felt. I have no idea if she was really able to teach anyone else to do this. I'd be curious to know if any veterinarians out there have experience with this.
Meanwhile, you are invited to wear this wonderfully whimsical yet still professional pewter dachshund and veterinary caduceus name tag at your clinic!
