14k Solid Gold Greyhound Charm
Although the professional racers have been raised in kennels, they seem to adapt well to life in a family home. They may think they've died and gone to heaven- what a change for these dogs!
This breed of dog has been a part of the human experience at least as far back as ancient Egypt, and probably a lot further back than that. In England in the eighth century there is a record of a dog that really resembles today's greyhound. During the early day's of its recorded history the greyhound was known as the gazehound.
This was at one time a hunting dog, where it was first noticed for its incredible speed. Instead of just admiring that attribute, someone felt the need to turn it into a vehicle for making money by placing bets. I only hope the greyhound does get some joy out of moving so fast, so its life has a bit of joy in it. From what I've read, they have a real determination to win the race, so I bet they do enjoy it to some degree.
It is a gentle dog with children, a fact I find amazing since the career hounds have not, as far as I know, been exposed to any family life whatsoever. It must just come naturally to them, as before they were exploited as racers they must've been a part of the home.
My gold greyhound charm is a sweet piece of dog jewelry, and I think it came out quite well
