I thought this outdoor cat den was a unique way to let your kitty get some fresh air and stay safe at the same time. I saw this enclosure up close recently at a convention. There were 3 cats inside, all relaxed and looking perfectly happy. It didn’t seem much like a cage.
At a recent veterinary convention my next door neighbor brought her Bichon frise in to keep her company in the booth. Karla introduced me to her- “Sophie” was her name.
When we were exhibiting at the recent Humane Society gathering in Orlando, Annemarie Lucas came by for a chat and to look at some of my sterling silver bone jewelry.

friends who’ve been my customers for many years.

A couple weeks ago we learned that Jeff Corwin
of Animal Planet fame would be coming to the Clearwater Library to give a talk
and do a book signing. I thought he might enjoy a Magic Zoo name badge, so I
designed one with a coral snake wrapped around his name. I figure even if he
never wore it, he could stick it up on the fridge. But can you believe it? We
forgot to take a picture of it before I presented it to him!
Take my word for it- it was a great looking name tag.
Ed and I just returned from a trip to Texas for a Veterinary Convention where I exhibited my jewelry. Most of the time we spent talking or listening to music, but the radio news crept into our trip pretty often as well.
Of course the Michael Vick animal cruelty story is big news, and with good reason.
About a month ago the Magic “ZooMobile” headed west- Salt Lake City for a trade show. Denver was on the way, so we stopped in to say “Hi” to our friends at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital.
Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald popped out from his busy afternoon schedule to chat. Then he gathered up some props ( a turtle resting peacefully in his cage and someone else’s Magic Zoo name badge, as his lab coat was temporarily misplaced) so we could snap a few photographs.
I was in my booth at the exhibit hall in Ft. Worth, Texas when Ed told me there were two Longhorn cattle at the loading dock!
I was a little embarrassed asking this craggy cowhand’s permission to take a photograph. He smiled (indulgently, I thought) and shrugged his shoulders. But we did get a photo, and more importantly, I got to pet this beautiful animal.
Ten minutes later and under escort, the two bulls were parading through the exhibit hall (I should mention this was a conference geared towards Texas veterinarians) But the image was still rather surreal…

We exhibited at a show in Birmingham, Alabama last month where Ed coerced me into posing under a 15 foot blow up mosquito. What you can’t see is the woman behind Ed who was laughing her head off. She probably thought I was a pitiful speciman of humanity. “No, I don’t care to have my photo taken with key political figures or famous movie stars- only large stuffed bugs.”

Under the Bug
We recently spent an afternoon at the Tampa Renaissance Festival as part of celebrating my daughter-in-law’s birthday. I enjoyed the costumes, music and various live theatre- but what really held my attention was the tiger show put on by a group from the Marcan Tiger Preserve located in the Florida panhandle. Our niece, Rebecca, (out to visit us from New York on spring break) snapped this shot. Notice there are 4 color variations- all natural in the wild. (I had no idea!) These tigers were incredibly beautiful and very well behaved. The trainers were totally smooth and had perfect communication with the tigers, that they’ve raised from cubs. Click on Marcan Tigers to see and learn more about them.
