Beautiful Butterfly Jewelry

Unique Butterfly jewelry has been popular for a very long time. Did the Egyptians incorporate this beautiful design into their artwork? I don’t know and haven’t been able to find out for sure, but I do know that lovely designs of this insect have been popular since the deco years of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.

Bakelite is one of my favorite early plastics used for jewelry making. The image of the butterfly is one that made its appearance often in the artistry of those years. Color was an important part of this material, and what could be more conducive to the image of this little creature than a material that covers the spectrum, from vibrant reds to luminescent greens? One of my own favorite butterfly designs is this version of a pretty green butterfly pendant. What I especially love about it is the little hint of a sparkle in the contrasting darker green, woven throughout the wing pattern. I’m a sucker for this kind of thing- detail is what I look for in all kinds of jewelry.

And if you are more into the pastels, this pair of lavender butterfly earrings (also somewhat in the pink or purple spectrum) could be just the thing. They would be perfect for the (hopefully soon) spring days around the corner. As I write this from my Florida studio, I look out into the yard which almost frosted last night and wonder when I’ll see my tropical beauties on wing appear again. It will be here before I can ponder that thought again, I’d venture.

Are you a charm collector? I thought a pretty silver butterfly charm would be something fun to clip onto a charm bracelet. It’s on the dainty side, and would fit in size wise with most collections. I haven’t actually met anyone who doesn’t like butterflies, now that I think about it, so I imagine this version would be appreciated by most. It’s delicate enough for a child’s bracelet yet the design is sophisticated enough for mom or Aunt June to wear.

For something really special, this winged pendant in 14K gold might be considered. How about an anniversary gift? You can purchase it along with a gold chain in one of two lengths. Imagine the look on her face when she unwraps it! If you really want to impress her, consider a matching pair of gold butterfly earrings.

This symbol of nature is a wonderful choice for any kind of gift giving occasion. I realize that many people collect specific designs, but since most of us enjoy the outdoors, jewelry in natural designs seems universally loved.

Bug jewelry, such as lady bug earrings, dragonfly pins and so forth has been popular for years. The challenge is to create something as an artist that has a new look and feel- something that women enjoy wearing because it makes them feel pretty.

So grab a pair of gorgeous blue butterfly earrings to set off that lovely white summer outfit and you’ll be the picture of warm weather loveliness. (For extra flair, add a magnificent matching butterfly pin.)
