I’ve been a sterling jewelry artist for quite a few years. For a long time animal lover like me, it was easy to slip into the role. After all, I’d been an artist for my whole life and an animal lover at least that long! (Who says you only live once?)

When I design my pieces, I pay attention to the personality of each individual breed. It’s true that not only are the breeds visually different, but each one seems to look at the world in a different way. Think about the slight arrogance of the Scottie, the sweet puppy-like innocence of the giant Great Dane, or the little tough guy attitude of the Chihuahua. It’s a joy to create pendants and earrings that capture that rainbow of qualities!

Custom Animal Jewelry

Take the kitties, for instance. I have a particular soft spot in my heart for cats, and I have several designs of sterling silver cat jewelry. I also have a library full of cat books, and sometimes I just flip through the pages to find poses that are particularly fetching.

There are a lot of beautiful sterling silver horse jewelry designs available today - I’ve seen them online and elsewhere. I have sterling silver pendants and earrings (and something I think is really a neat design called a pin-pendant) in several horse related sterling silver jewellery designs.

One of my favorite animal designs is the dolphin in silver jewelry. Sterling really gleams in that beautiful, sleek shape. My sterling silver dolphin looks like it’s playfully diving through the waves in the very nearby Gulf of Mexico. This is definitely one of the advantages to life in Florida! So of course I had to create a line of sterling silver dolphin jewelry. (Somehow the two dolphin pendants are especially appealing to me.)

The best part, I think, of being a sterling jewelry artist is that I’m free to create whatever inspires me. I’m a big believer in the fact that every one of us is an artist in some area or another. Some of us specialize in making little critters into sterling silver jewelry, ( 925 sterling silver jewelry is my current favorite medium, of course) others of us are master chefs, and (hopefully, many) of us are wonderful parents with the ability to nurture talent latent in their children.

Whenever I’m approached by someone who laments the fact “I don’t have a creative bone in my body”, I always shudder a little. It’s there alright! Sometimes it goes unrecognized or unacknowledged, but it can be discovered and nurtured with a bit of attention.

I’d say that my favorite part of being a Jewelry Artist are those times when I receive an email from a customer who feels I’ve somehow captured the personality of her much loved pet. Oftentimes she’ll wear a sterling pendant or pair of sterling earrings as a poignant reminder of a very special animal companion.
