Hello! I’m Merry Rosenfield, the artist who creates The Magic Zoo jewelry.

I was born in the Midwest in the 1950s- right smack in the middle of the Cold War when ducking under your school desk and covering your head in case of a nuclear attack was part of a normal school day. My mother was a somewhat eccentric artist who did free lance work for the Gibson Greeting card company and did an admirable job of raising four kids while juggling her stay at home career around laundry, meals and bedtimes.

My mom was adamant that anyone with talent could make a living as an artist. All you had to do was apply yourself, study hard in school, and pursue your dream relentlessly. Oh, and go to college. I managed one out of the four (I’ve always been pretty good at pursuing dreams) so her advice paid off. My first love was singing traditional music from the British Isles, but somewhere along the way I was seduced by the idea of making animal jewelry. I know that’s seems an incomprehensible switch, but I have always loved animals and about 25 years ago it just seemed like a good idea.

It really was a good idea. I graduated from selling my hand made polymer clay jewelry door to door in California business districts (I am not kidding!) to exhibiting in juried art shows around the country to (today) making my designs in sterling silver and gold. I still participate in the occasional art show, but most of my business now is done through my online store.
