The nice thing about a pendant is it can be worn on its own or in combination with a pair of sterling silver Yorkie earrings to match. In my Yorkshire terrier design, I have both a post earring design as well as the dangling version.
The Yorkie is a little dog that seems forever in motion. They've been called glamorous, but underneath that movie star dog beauty is a merry little sprite that is full of energy and only wants to play! In the early days of the development of the breed, it was used to exterminate the rats in the Yorkshire mines and cotton mills. It was even used sometimes to take part in rat-killing contests! You can bet these early toughies were not wearing red ribbbons in their hair!
Eventually these good salt of the earth miners found another use for the little dog, and the affluent citizens nearby began to buy them for the totally opposite purpose of being handsome little dog for the ladies! No telling how that came about, maybe one of the "slumming' rich men discovered the Yorkie while betting on a fight of rat vs. dog, who knows? What a career change for a scrappy little dog!
My sterling silver Yorkie pendant is more reflective of the lady's pet than the working dog, but I think you can see a little of that independent spirit in the eyes still.
