Westies seem to have a lot going for them. They appear to be such confident little dogs, perhaps from the historical events that led to their development from an unwanted color variation of the Cairn terrier to a glorious breed in their own right. I think it's a good idea that someone took it upon themselves to create this spunky breed!
I doubt if many of the progeny of the original Westie line is still use for the original purpose for which they wee bred, but I wouldn't put it past a Westie to go digging for vermin if they were given half a chance. I think dogs like to feel useful and ought to have something to do that makes them feel happy. (Not that that would have to be searching for rats!) Perhaps there's something that would make use of their skills in a setting more applicable to the 21st century.
The Westie is now an enormously popular breed, more so than most any other terrier! I attended a dog show in Georgia a few years ago as a jewelry exhibitor and I remember being dazzled by the enormous array of white Westies parading around underfoot.
I offer my version of the sterling silver Westie pendant for your viewing and possibly your wearing pleasure as well
