Description: I have been studying up on the greyhound tonight and learning all sorts of fascinating things about this breed.  Other breeds can be found on my sterling silver dog post earrings page. The sport of greyhound racing began in this country in the last decade of the 19th century. There was a horse racing track in Miami Florida and a greyhound track was set up nearby. It seems no one was all that thrilled by the idea at the time. However, less than 20 years later an entrepreneur in Arizona set up the first modern style greyhound track and it gained a lot of interest. Later on more tracks opened in Miami and the sport was well on its way, for better or worse. It was even exported as a sport back to England, where it really started in a more primitive form at the end of the 19th century.
