Before I made sterling silver post earrings, it was always a dilemma to create post earrings that were small enough to be worn by a petite woman or a young girl. My former medium, which was clay, just didn’t allow me to work as small as I needed to. I was thrilled to finally be able to create stud earrings in a small size.
The next challenge was to get just as much expression and personality into a tiny face as I did in a jewelry design that was larger. This was around the time I decided I needed to wear glasses when I worked! The annoyance of wearing glasses to design proved to be far outbalanced by my newfound ability to give a tiny silver post earring expression and life.
My little .925 silver post earrings are some of my favorite designs now. It makes me laugh to see the photos of them with their “look” enlarged enough to really see. Sometimes I’m amazed that the photos can be blown up so large without the piece losing its cuteness.
I’ll probably create some new post earrings as the months and years go by- I think a lot of people enjoy wearing sterling silver post earrings on their own or, in the case of women with more than one piercing in their ear, as an additional piece in a separate ear hole. |
