Description: Originally I made a mother possum with a few babies on her back. This is my current silver version. Be sure to check out my other sterling silver wildlife pin designs. There is a story that says the first possum that made it to Europe was greeted by none other than King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. The possum in question was a female with babies in her pouch, and the royal couple exclaimed that she was an “incredible mother.” Not a bad introduction for the oft considered lowly possum! (Gentlemen looking for an "incredible father" pin should look to my sterling monkey pin). Many people think of them as stupid and smelly animals. But they are very successful animals, one of the few marsupials in the world, and the only family of marsupials in the New World. The possum family ranges from the tiny mouse sized possum to the Virginia possum, which is about the size of a small dog. There are possums that live in trees only and a number of different varieties that are at home on the ground as well. Possums have pretty good eyesight. In some kinds the eyes are really large and even protrude somewhat. They have a good hearing sense, and the ears can move in different directions to follow where a sound may be coming from.
