Description: This guy’s inflated throat sac is nothing compared to the picture I’m looking at in one of my animal encyclopedias. It starts just below his chin and is about the same size as his body. I’d love to hear what he sounds like , but since he’s from South Africa it probably won’t happen anytime soon. He and the bearded dragon are two of the exotic animals I would love to run into, but don't exactly expect to see on my daily constitutional. I have to settle for making silver representations, so, of course, I have a bearded dragon pin in silver too. A little information on how frogs make those glorious sounds! The calls are caused by the vocal cords vibrating. The calls are created by the frog exhaling a lot of air. It inflates a vocal sac when it vocalizes. The vocal sacs, when inflated, act a little like the sounding board of a piano. The calls can last from just a millisecond to several minutes in duration. Frog calls differ widely as well. Some I’ve heard are quite beautiful in a sweet sad way. (Human interpretation, of course) Then there’s the bullfrog, which I thought was pretty frightening the first time I heard it when I was a teenager and we moved into a house that was about half a mile from a lake. It sounded like a rather unearthly groan. There are some calls that are described as sounding like a duck, a whistle or a trill. If you are a frog lover such as myself, this sterling silver frog pin who is obviously calling to his beloved is quite a romantic piece of jewelry!
