Description: There are two species of wolf. One, the timber wolf, is found in northern Europe, Asia and parts of the United States. This one is the larger of the two wolves, weighing up to 150 pounds. The red wolf is found only in the south central USA. Wolves are courageous animals, with the ability to coordinate a hunt with up to three dozen individuals! Even a lone wolf is able to kill a steer. Elk or moose are generally hunted by a group of wolves. Wolves have an amazing ability to run for hours at a time, even all the way through the night. I just read about a red wolf that covered 125 miles in about 2 weeks. This included crossing four mountain ranges. I’ve also read that the wolf’s reputation as a man killer is pretty much fiction. Like most wild animals, wolves are shy and tend to steer clear of people. I think a wolf would have to be pretty desperate to go for one of us. Not too long ago it seems that wolves were becoming stylish to own as pets. Or perhaps they were wolf-dog hybrids. Either way, it doesn’t see quite right. If anyone reading this has experience with wolves as pets, I’d be interested in hearing from you. I know there are many people who are quite fond of wolves as they naturally are in their wild state. No doubt they are beautiful animals. I really wanted to design some wolf jewelry to reflect their nobility and nature.
