Description: One of the largest chameleons is the parson’s chameleon. It’s nearly 2 feet long! This one is a rainforest resident in Madagascar. Its occupation is hunter of spiders, other lizards and big insects. The skin of this genus looks more like leather than the pebble encrusted look of most chameleons. The males are heavier and huskier looking than the somewhat dainty females, typical of the chameleons. The more I see these fantastic creatures, most of which seem to be from Madagascar, the more my heart is filled with longing to make a trek there! And the more I’m concerned about the state of the rain forests and the logging that is destroying the habitat of these marvelous creatures. Have you ever taken a really good look at any one of these guys? They look like either a cartoon character (they remind my husband of Bart Simpson) or an alien pet left on the planet by mistake at some dim point in the past. I love them!
