Description: I’ve learned a bit about the pig, and I must say he is an animal of some depth. Swine may have been rounded up and treated as a domestic farm animal from the Neolithic period, over 5,000 years ago.
In ancient Egypt pigs had a different job. They used them to tread corn, their hooves made a hole the perfect depth for the seed to be planted.
Pigs have also been used for herding cattle (well, gathering them up anyway), and also turning soil to make it ready for planting. Since way back in their prehistoric history as helpers to man they were used to clear the ground.
There are many different breeds of pigs, all created by man for different purposes. Some are sty pigs and there are even some pigs that were bred to be herd pigs. I think pigs have had a long and venerable history.
But any pig lover would get a kick out of this humorous pig pin-pendant in sterling silver.
It was created based on a story of a much beloved pig in a New England town, and it always makes me think of her!
