Description: It goes without saying that this would make a wonderful, fun gift for the basset hound lover. I understand that basset hounds make loving companions and are quite patient with children. That totally makes sense when I look at those soulful eyes. Placid is a word I’ve seen used to describe this breed. I’ve also heard that they have a tendency to be a little lazy. I would imagine it’s interesting to see them when they’re involved in a hunt- it must be humorous and a little surprising to see the change that must come over them when they’re doing what comes naturally to them. Apparently they are great at following hares and pheasant by smelling them and chasing them through undergrowth, which I imagine they are pretty good at getting through considering their build! Their voice has been described as having a bell like quality to it. I have heard them bark and would have to agree that is a great description of the sound.
