Description: The breed itself is a fascinating dog-with ancestry that includes the wild dingo of Australia. These handsome dogs (also known as heelers) are exceptional herders. The cattle dog makes a wonderful guard dog as well, and will bravely confront any dog or stranger it sees. It is loyal to its owner but isn’t usually recommended as a family dog when there are young children in the house because there are cases of it attacking a child if it gets too annoyed. This dog is used to work, and should be taken out for a really vigorous romp or at least a good walk a couple times a day at least. The puppies are born white, at least according to one book on the matter. This author says that because of the Dalmation ancestry this is typical and the adult coat coloring isn’t apparent for a few weeks after birth. It sounds like this breed should probably be trained well because the pups can be pretty aggressive. I’ve seen some of these dogs and find them very attractive, but I can see how you’d want to be on top of their discipline.
