Sterling Silver Pin Pendant - Brooch or Pendant?
The first time I heard of a sterling silver pin pendant I was a little confused. Is it a brooch? Is it a pendant? It’s actually both. This is a fantastic way to display your favorite piece of wearable art. The back has a silver loop to slide your chain through, and a good quality pin back soldered on to it as well. When worn as a pendant, the pin back doesn’t show. When worn as a pin, the loop for the chain is invisible. A brilliant way to own two pieces of jewelry for the price of one. Read more...

The idea of Sterling silver pin pendants was introduced to me many years ago by one of my silversmiths who knew a lot about gifts of sterling silver jewelry. I’d not heard of this particular type of jewelry, but I was smitten with the idea of creating something that had the dual purpose of being worn as a pendant one day and a pin some other time.
Not every pin is a design suitable to be a pendant as well. A certain size and shape is required in the sterling silver jewelry design. I discovered this by trial and (a few too many!) errors. So some of my pieces are pin pendants combinations, some are pendants only and some are pins only.
If you were to turn over one of my .925 silver pin pendant designs, you would find a loop made of sterling silver near the top of the piece, with a pin just below it. Neither the silver loop (which is there for the chain to go through) nor the pin is visible from the front of the silver design.
I still think a sterling silver pin pendant is a grand idea and I wear a lot of them myself. A certain little granddaughter of mine sure likes to see what animal “grammy” is wearing that day. I plan on continuing to add them to my line as time goes by and the design itself permits it.
