I think koalas must be among the most appealing animals on the earth. They spend most of their lives in a eucalyptus tree, coming down only occasionally to lick the earth. (This may be just to aid their digestion, but I’m not sure if anyone really knows.) And of course their only form of nourishment is the leaves of the same tree, which has about 12 species that the koala will eat. I have designed two different earrings that can be worn with this pendant. One is the dangling koala earrings and the other is the very small post type. In the spring the mother koala has one baby, which is just about the size of an almond when born. Like other marsupial babies, it has to make the climb into its mother’s pouch unaided. The tiny animal nurses there for many months. When it’s 6 months of age, it leaves the pouch and travels around on its mom’s back, just like in my pendant! The baby pretty much stays with the mom all the time, but if it does get separated from her it calls her. When a Koala is a year old it is weaned and will find its own way in the world.
