Description: In one of my reference books that talks about armadillos, there was a close up of an armadillo face with his digging claw next to his head. I was amazed to see the claw was so long! It seemed like ½ the size of his entire head. Most armadillos live in South America, specifically Brazil, Bolivia and Argentina. Most people think of them living in arid regions, but they can be found in numerous climates from the moist rain forest to the treeless plains. Obviously our nine banded armadillo isn’t at all particular about his surroundings. Some armadillos produce as many as 12 babies, all identical from the division of a single egg. This, of course, is how you get identical offspring. Armadillos have a peculiar gate from the fact that they walk on the tips of the claws and the soles of the feet. Armadillos typically live for about 6 or 7 years in captivity, presumably less in the wild. I guess that may depend on their captive diet. Hopefully they don’t get into the junk food habit and stick to their bugs and fungus. My sterling silver facing armadillo pendant is a cutie, and I hope it gives you many hours of wearing pleasure.
