You can’t have reptile earrings without the sterling silver reptile pendants to match, so here they are! Reptiles are just so wonderful, I could design them all day long. I don’t imagine that would go over well with my dog or cat fans, but I try to create a balance. Perhaps it’s the fact that reptile bodies are so foreign to our own mammal type that makes them so endlessly fascinating. (I do love mammals, too, hence my sterling silver pendants of small pets). There is some common ground, of course, but there is that ancient aspect to all reptiles that I find very appealing. I imagine if you could go back in time millions of years ago you’d find some lizards and snakes that were similar looking to the ones in our gardens today. Scientists today are finding lots of similarities between reptiles and birds and specifically the relationship of dinosaurs to early and modern birds. A lot of our Florida birds such as herons, pelicans and cranes have that “reptile way” about them. So many reptiles have beautiful color as a primary recognizable feature. Working in sterling silver and gold can be a bit of a challenge because of that, but it seems to just require more attention to the basic body shape and anatomy. It helps that some of them have spiky formations or other adornments that are unique to them. If you are looking for a specific reptile, it could be an idea waiting to happen already. All I can say is keep checking back! And see them all at sterling silver pendant gifts. |
