Description: The pendant is ¾ inch wide and 1 inch tall at his tallest point ( tip of ears to bottom of front hooves). There is a smaller western horse pendant in silver should you need one. The horse has been used in the western United States for centuries. One of the most enduring symbols of the west is the cowboy astride his horse. And the wild mustang, the horse that has become feral and formed herds in the west since the 17th century really seems symbolic of a wild and untamed time. There are still quite a few of these wild horses, and they are protected by the Bureau of Land Management. There has even been an “Adopt a Horse” program that has helped to manage the numbers of these animals. Most of the mustangs are descended from the Spanish horses that were brought to this country by the Spanish Conquistadores. The horses that escaped formed herds. There are also feral horses that are descendents of the artillery horses from past centuries. They have a different body type than the Spanish horses- they tend to be of heavier build. It’s thought they are decendents of the East Friesian Horse which the military liked at one time. They have been tamed by experienced trainers and eventually have become passable riding horses.
