I have always had a thing for turkeys. Not to eat them, mind you (at least not in the last 10 or so years). I just think they are interesting birds, and I’ve been fortunate enough to see them almost everywhere I’ve ever lived.

When we (my siblings and I ) were teenagers, we’d observe them strutting around the hillsides in Winton Woods, near where we lived. My sister Holly developed an uncanny knack to gobble like a Tom turkey that is unmatched.

One day I was working in my studio here in Florida and my husband and I looked out the window in time to see a large lumbering tom turkey clumsily fly up and land momentarily on the chain length fence at the back of our property. It was a wild turkey, and we have no idea where the heck it came from. There are no real wooded areas within 10 or so miles from here.

Perhaps it was an omen. Maybe it was telling me to design a turkey to join my sterling silver farm animal pendant gift selection and to offer an alternative to the silver chicken pendant.

If that’s true it sure took me long enough.
