Description: Pigs don’t like to be herded themselves- perhaps they find it faintly offensive and beneath their dignity. They are happy living together, however, which makes sense. Pigs come from a long line of big and happy families. Because of this it’s possible to deduce that the domestication of the pig occurred when mankind was no longer of a nomadic frame of mind. The taboo on eating pig may have originated with the people who remained nomadic. Perhaps they felt it was beneath them to eat domesticated pig meat. Of course there’s also the possibility that it was just because of the disease trichinosis that people got from eating undercooked pork. Pigs for thousands of years have been bred for their flesh. I read in one book that pigs were occasionally used to pull a cart. How is it that this amazingly adept animal is now reduced only to the table as food? The more I read about this intelligent animal the harder it is to believe it has suffered such a fate. This sterling silver pig pendant is one of many pig items I’ve created in the Magic Zoo sterling farm animal pendant gift section. I hope you find it amusing! Another favorite is the woolly whole body sheep silver pendant. Enjoy. |
