Description: It’s probable that the taming of the wild ass can be credited to women. Women were the original “pack animals” often treated as slaves by men. It makes sense that they would have the most to gain from taming an animal capable of taking on much of the drudgery that they were subjected to. Hurrah for the donkey! It’s thought that the first donkeys were tamed for their milk, and later recruited to help with the work load. Women were certainly the first farmers, and she is the one who learned to raise animals. It is said that the burro milk is nutritionally very similar to human milk and has been used since ancient times as a source of nourishment for infants and ill people. I imagine my charming goat pendant in sterling silver fits into this story somewhere. While the men were taming the horse for use in war and hunting, women tamed the smaller burro to be used to help the family prosper and stay well. It makes sense! They were easy for women to load, and his height allowed women and children both to mount him with ease.
