Description: The history of this dog in America is a colorful one and the breeding and the sale of the puppies was carefully monitored for many years. In fact, they even had a rule that only members of the Weimaraner club were allowed to have the dog. However, it became impossible to monitor the activities of all the members, and eventually non -Weimaraner club members began to acquire the dogs, sometimes at amazingly high prices, at least for the time. Possibly the reason the prices were high and there was so much demand for the puppies was because they were popularized through the medium of newspapers, radio, magazines and even television later on. Was it their almost unearthly beauty that made them so desirable? I can’t imagine it wasn’t. The Weimaraner was recognized as a wonderfully able competitor in obedience competition. It is, however, still a wonderful field dog and excels in this area. In Canada the Weimaraner has become equally popular in field trials.
