Description: I’ve heard it say that because of the unique characteristics of the Scottie, only certain people with the right temperament can live easily with them. I don’t know any of these dogs personally, but I think of them as very plucky little dogs that are probably just in need of something useful to do. A lot of the hard working breeds have become a little antsy because they’re no longer needed for the jobs for which they were bred. This could apply to the lovably sterling silver sheltie pendant as well. Think of the excitement and mental exercise of tracking a fox to its den, and the speed required to actually catch and kill it. Maybe it’s not a particularly pretty picture, but the Scottie was bred in a harsh environment and he was expected to do a job that was tough and not without danger and challenge. I imagine after a full day of life or death encounters, he was well rewarded with a good meal and a place by the hearth. There was a sense of satisfaction and well deserved rest. Anyway, that’s my theory on why the Scottie seems to be somewhat problematic from the viewpoint of many people. I bet if you gave him something productive to do, a lot of the difficulties would fall by the wayside. So here you have my exceptionally cute (to me!) sterling silver Scottie pendant.
