Description: I find the baby version of the pug to be one of the cutest forms of life on the planet. I bet a lot of pug owners would agree! I’ve done quite a bit of research into pug history, and just came upon another gem. It seems in the 1700s in Italy, the upper class citizens carried pugs with them as they rode about in their carriages and also dressed them up. Not only were they subjected to wearing frilly collars, but they put jackets and matching pantaloons on them. Oh the long suffering pugs of the day! Perhaps they had their own tailors, creating little pug outfits. Or maybe the gentry commissioned their own tailors to design these pug clothes. Makes you wonder what the tailors thought! Probably a lot of snickering behind the backs of these people with way too much money! I wonder if there are any pug paintings of the time with these little ladies and gentlemen of the pug persuasion. Let me know if anyone has researched this! I’d especially love to see one fully arrayed with the pantaloons and all. I’ve seen an early photograph of a pug from March of 1891 that looks like a stretched out version of one of today’s dogs. The face is similar, but the ears are a lot bigger and the body is quite different.
