Description: The original purpose that the golden retriever was bred for was for waterfowl hunting. They love to swim, and this is what it all goes back to. Of course they are great as family dogs, and I know a couple of them who are wonderful seeing eye dogs. It seems like a dog you can trust through thick and thin. It would certainly have to be if you were willing to trust it as your eyes. This dog does need a lot of exercise to keep it in tip top shape, but that goes for all of us, doesn’t it? At least with a dog you can get your workout at the same time. (My great Dane silver pendant is another breed that can give you a workout!) There seems to be a bit of debate as to where the Golden Retriever made his debut. There was a certain Lord Tweedmouth of England who is said to have contributed to the development of the breed. It is said he used the “Russian Tracker” as one of the contributing parents, but this dog is sort of a mysterious component. Wherever this delightful dog originated from doesn’t really matter now, anyway. We are just lucky that he’s here!
