Description: Basset hounds have a coat that’s pretty low maintenance, but it does have to be brushed to get rid of the dead hair and keep it looking nice and shiny. I think your hound probably likes to look his best, and it can be a nice way of bonding with any dog, I think. He also (hopefully) will enjoy that bath that he should be given at least two or three times a month. I’ve never owned a basset hound, but he looks like he would be kind of a fun one to bathe, sort of patient and putting it up with it if it makes you happy! Because of the nature of their body, basset hounds have to be exercised and given a proper diet so they don’t get fat. Apparently they also have a problem with bloating if they don’t get out there and pump those little legs every day. These dogs have pretty fair sized litters. They sometimes give birth to eight or ten puppies! They need to be given enough calcium to prevent trouble with their bones. Maybe it has to do with those short little legs and that long low body. It kind of makes sense. It looks like you also have to take good care of their ears so they don’t get infected.
