I love this sterling silver dragonfly pendant. It has the delicate look I was going for, with plenty of detail as well.

When I lived in California, we used to see a lot of beautiful blue damselflies on our frequent walks. So I suppose I could call this a damselfly pendant as well. However, I don’t know how many people know what damselflies are, since they look like tiny, delicate dragonflies. (At least the ones I’m familiar with.)

Dragonflies are the elite of the insect world when it comes to the subject of flight. Not only can they hover, fly at different speeds and change direction on a dime, but they can even fly backwards!

Dragonflies also have excellent vision, and can see movement as far away as 40 feet.

Most people are aware that the adult dragonfly is a predator, helping to keep little nasties like mosquitoes under control, but not as many people may be aware that the larvae also feet on insects, and even tadpoles and baby fish! The dragonfly is one tough customer, that’s for sure.

Dragonflies are pretty large insects, but the ones that lived about 300 million years ago had a wingspan of about twenty seven inches! This is close to the size of a large bird, like a crow. They are, from what we currently know, the largest insects ever to have lived on the earth.

This is an honorable insect with a long and worthy history. You can happily wear my sterling silver dragonfly pendant, and rejoice in the amazing abilities of this bug!
