Owl PendantOur Price: $29.00 Summary: My sterling silver owl pendant was designed based on one of the “eared owl” species. Of course, those feather tufts are not really ears, but probably useful in some way to this type of owl. |

Description: Owls have their own language, made up of various hoots and screams. As one might expect, the little owls have a higher pitched range of sounds and the larger ones have a deeper range. Owls use their voices to announce hunting territories and to communicate with their mates. Owls that live in thicker forests vocalize more than those that live in more open areas. Most owls lay their eggs in holes or crevices. A few actually nest on the ground. It seems like the eggs and chicks would be so vulnerable, and in fact some owls in New Zealand are becoming very rare because of the introduced carnivores there. A little more on the nesting habits of owls; most do not build their own nests. They prefer to take over the nests of other animals, even prairie dogs in the case of the burrowing owl in North America. They could dig their own holes if they wanted to, but why bother when the work’s already been done? Sometimes these owls nest four pairs to a single acre in a prairie dog community. I wonder if they pay any sort of rent or if they have more of a mafia- like arrangement. Put a pretty sterling silver owl pendant on a chain for a really different look! In contrast to this forest dweller I have my icy penguin silver pendant and other avian designs at the silver bird pendants home. |
