Description: Armadillos are very good at what they do, particularly the nine banded ones that have made themselves at home in this country for the last one hundred plus years. When they first made their way into the states, starting with Texas, it was noted that they were pretty good at eliminating some unwanted bugs and so forth.
Some bright people got the idea of introducing them to some of the other southern states, primarily the ones that grew crops. Not maybe such a good idea. Armadillos do eat bugs, but to get at them they have a possibly problematic habit of digging. A lot. So much for those crops. It’s not like they were a plague or anything. It’s just that whenever we humans get these bright ideas of spreading animals (and plants as well) into areas they weren’t originally, we seem to get in trouble. Have you noticed that?
Before 3 decades in the 20th century had gone by, armadillos were in all the southeastern states, and methodically making their way even further north. They can’t go much further north unless global warming graciously provides them with a more suitable climate up there where it still snows, or they grow a lot so they can store enough fat to keep them warm in the winter. I don’t think we’ll have to worry about that for a few million years.
But they are here to stay, and I find it suitable that women should honor their perseverance by wearing this charming pair of silver armadillo earrings. In fact you have a choice of dillos. See my unique front facing silver armadillo earrings and other sterling silver wildlife earrings in my store.
