Description: Bearded dragons are about 16 inches long- a pretty good size for a pet lizard! They’re considered to be semi-arboreal and often perch themselves on fence posts along the road. Yet another good reason to make that trip to Australia! I’d love to make that trek for the interesting lizards, snakes and other reptiles native to this fascinating continent. It would be a sort of “side dish” to visiting with the other unique fauna there. They are adept at putting on a fearsome display when cornered, expanding their impressive beard and making scary noises reminiscent of a snake. One of my books show a bearded dragon in full display regalia and it is indeed impressive! There are a lot of lizards that have the term “dragon” as part of their name. These lizards are in no way related. Dragon is just a descriptive term, probably more hopeful of their fierceness than anything. However, the komodo dragon could certainly qualify as high on the fierceness scale and not likely to be found as a household reptile pet.
