One design really seems to highlight the other. Barrel racing is a sport that the Quarter Horse seems bred to. It’s a sport that Australians seem to enjoy as much as Americans. In both countries it is a sport of women riders who are racing against time to dash around the barrels on a course resembling a clover leaf. I’ve watched these women and their horses on television, but have never had the pleasure of witnessing the sport live. In the rodeo, horses that are trained to assist the rider rope a calf are especially adept. They have to chase, stop on a dime and then jerk the calf and stun it (without injuring it) and make sure the rope is exactly taut enough to keep the calf stopped without dragging it. The owner of such a horse goes to different rodeos with it and makes money by allowing cowboys to borrow it and then receive pay by the “borrowers” giving part of their earnings to him.
