I surprised
myself recently when I saw how many pairs of sterling silver horse earrings I’d
created over the past several years! It has become an exciting part of my silver
earring home page.
In 1990 or thereabouts I made my first horse
jewelry item from polymer clay. It was a clunky little guy, really more of an
imaginative cartoon. Back then I would have enjoyed working on animated
claymation projects, and daresay I probably could’ve held my own, but that time
has passed.
Horses are animals that really have to be closely observed
to create a likeness that’s passable. I keep learning and improving. Now I have
some sterling silver horse earrings I’m genuinely proud of. Horse jewelry is an
area where it is possible to do some work that portrays a wide range of feelings
and poses.
I miss having horses as neighbors. When we lived for a while
out in the country in Northern California my daily morning walk always included
a little nose scratch for the pretty bay mare down the road. I love the way
horses smell and sound- they were such elegant animals and friendly neighbors.
My daughter who was a young woman that animals just seemed to gravitate towards
was also enamored of our equine neighbors. I think the admiration was mutual
because the neighborliness of the horses increased when she was with
me.
I imagine my line of sterling silver horse designs will continue to
grow, so keep a look out from time to time for new ones. There are some
interesting designs of farm
animal earrings in sterling silver, also.
