Description: The wild jungle fowl and the modern chicken look pretty similar to me. They are quite common in many of the warm areas of Asia and Malaysia. The cock is beautiful, iridescent green with red and black. He crows as a means of defining his territory and harem of females. I wonder if he sounds like the domestic rooster? The jungle fowl hen is more of a reddish brown color. These wild fowl eat a lot like their domestic relatives, scratching around on the earth to dig up bugs and worms. They also eat berries, some leaves and bulbs of various kinds. They don’t nest in the trees, but lay their eggs on the ground. I enjoy learning a little history about animal origins, especially when it isn’t all that far in the past. I also find it fascinating since the ancestor of the chicken is still around, bright eyed and busy tailed. There are about a hundred domestic chicken breeds. Some of them look rather whimsical. I don’t know any of the various breed’s names, but I especially enjoy the black chicken with the white fluffy “hairdo”. There aren’t a lot of people searching for sterling silver chicken earrings, but I want to be there for you if you should be in need of a pair!
