Description: One of the most endearing descriptions I’ve seen for this little dog is from one author who said that it reminded him of  “a sergeant major carrying out an inspection.” I instantly knew what he meant by that, even though I’ve had very little contact with this breed. The dog does make a lasting impression if you’ve ever seen one. The breed is well known as to its ratting ability, and there is a story I’ve heard in a couple of places about a Scottie that was put in a closed room with 100 rats, just to see how long it would take him to kill them all. (Oh, the horror of it all!) Well, this tough little Scottie by the name of Billy killed them in seven minutes, or so the story goes. How is that even possible? I don’t know that it is, but it makes a good story! I am following in the footsteps of a long line of jewelry artists, starting in the 1930s, who made Scottie jewelry. There was a material called Bakelite that was quite popular for creating jewelry in, and in one of my books there are several pages of Scottie pins in various moods, colors and positions. There’s the Scottie with the red painted bow, the white walking Scottie, and the small triple Scottie of French origin. All are marvelously whimsical in design.
