The German name for muzzle is schnauze, so of course the name for this dog was a given! No other dog has quite a pronounced schnauze as this one! The schnauzer of yore trotted along the stage coach of his master as it made its way through the German forests. It earned its keep ridding stables of rats and mice. The early schnauzer was a favorite of artists of the time, and even appears in the paintings of Albrecht Durer. These dogs in all three variations are groomed in a similar manner. Their coat is shaped in a certain distinct manner as dictated by the rules of such things. Since all dogs differ somewhat in their physical makeup, the amount of grooming and the frequency with which it must be done can vary from dog to dog. The great thing is that a good groomer knows how to highlight the best features and draw the eye away from what may be a fault. Kind of like not wearing horizontal stripes if you’re heavy in the hips. Or black makes you look slimmer. I get it!
