Description: The Rottie comes from working dog stock. It was used as a draught animal to deliver meat, and was a hunter of boar. It also has had experience as a cattle dog. Pretty all around talented! During WWI, the Rottweiler was used as a police dog. However, I do believe this was on the other side. But that doesn’t negate the fact that it’s an intelligent and willing helpmate of mankind. It’s said that this dog is not for the faint of heart. It does well with firm handling, tempered with kindness, of course. Rotties are certainly big strong dogs, and not to be taken lightly. I think they are beautiful, but wouldn’t approach a strange one to pet it without the owner there to watch the proceedings. One of my neighbors once owned a Rottweiler, and after she gave birth to her first child, the dog became so protective of it that you really had to watch your step around him! But I’m sure there are plenty of heart warming stories out there about the gentleness of these handsome canines.
