Description: If you like the idea of a nice sterling silver dog jewelry set, combine these dangling earrings with either the sterling pug pin-pendant or the smaller pendant. Since I have two completely different pug dog collections in my line, there are a lot of possibilities. I think these earrings would also go nicely with the whole body pug pin-pendant, but that pin-pendant is a bit more expensive due to the amount of silver in the design.
Pugs were more fashionable than not in most ages, especially in the 18th century. But by the early 1800s, they seem to have fallen a bit out of favor. A popular author of the day wrote about the pug in a derogatory way, insisting that they were not good for any sport or purpose of any kind. They became relegated to the status of a pet for an old woman.
However, by the time Queen Victoria came to power, the pug enjoyed a renaissance of popularity. She loved dogs, and pugs were one of the breeds she kept. Most of them were kept as playmates for children. So the pug wasn’t out of favor for very long at all, and it seems it’s remained popular to this day.
I designed this pair of sterling silver pug head earrings a number of years ago, and like the dog they represent, seem to stay in favor! Another favorites are silver Shih Tzu earrings and, really, all the breeds at dog earrings made from 925 silver.
