Description: Dachshunds are headstrong little dogs (at least the ones that I know!) which to me makes them even more appealing. After all what’s so great about a pushover? The low and compact body type of the dachshund is perfectly suited to go down into a tunnel or a burrow. Their heads are wedge shaped and their ears, one of the cutest of their features are rounded at the very ends. I always think of them as having really long ears, but actually they are just the right size for the dog. When I was a kid I heard them referred to as wiener dogs, a name that I still hear once in a while to this day. I heard something about the origin of that name going back to a cartoon drawn in the early part of the 20th century. I’ll bet that cartoonist would be amazed that his drawing (which was probably done on a whim) had such an impact that a century later the term was still in use!
