Description: Cats are found natively in various versions on every part of the world except for Australia, Madagascar and certain islands. They may be relative newcomers to South America, arriving about a million years ago. We here in the USA have several species of cats including the lynx and bobcat. There are some more exotic species that live (or once did) along the Texas, New Mexico and Arizona borders. Those would be the ocelot, margay and jaguarondi. Perhaps the first domestic cats arrived in Britain when Phoenician traders brought them when they came to barter for tin mined in Cornwall at the time. I wish I could sail back through time and see what those early domesticated cats looked and acted like. I think of the British as being real cat lovers, but I’m not totally sure where I got that impression. I have a dear friend who lives near London and is appropriately named Kitty. You just know she has some cats to curl up with during those cold and foggy nights.
