There are so many different types of sterling silver earrings! I find that designing jewelry to be cast in sterling silver an exciting challenge. I love to give enough detail in the design so it’s without a doubt recognizable as a Magic Zoo original. I also make sure that my earrings are light enough to be comfortably worn. The wonderful thing about .925 silver earrings is the luster and soft look of the silver. Sterling silver certainly looks like no other metal. A couple years ago my husband and I were in Washington D.C. and visited the gem and mineral collection at the Smithsonian. It was fascinating to see silver in its unadulterated state. I found it beautiful somehow, even with the years of tarnish built up on the metal. Maybe it was just because I could picture the beauty and possibilities inherent in it! I’m so happy to be able to create my days away, searching for the perfect photograph to work from as I design my sterling silver jewelry. Many times I have a photograph of a beautiful animal in a thoughtful pose to look at. Sometimes I craft my designs with several different photographs of the same animal in mind. Most of my sterling silver earrings are of animal designs, but when I’m creating something other than an animal I really work from my imagination alone. |
