Description: When I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to get a glimpse of exotic animals that didn’t live in Ohio. Yes, like nine banded armadillos. The first time I saw one was in 1983 or so, here in Florida with my two young kids. What a delight! Armadillos have a unique way of crossing bodies of water that has definitely assisted their inexorable march across the United States. They inflate their stomach and intestines with air so they can be buoyant and swim across with ease. As for short distances, they merely walk across the river bed, as they can hold their breath for quite a while. Ingenious little guys, aren’t they?
