Description: One of the most interesting guinea pig varieties is the Peruvian, which is the one that looks like a well groomed, living mop. They must be brushed and carefully cared for, because they can’t do it without your help.
The Abyssinian guinea pig is another variety that is pretty popular in guinea pig circles. It has a wiry coat, and is sort of a series of cow licks going every which way. In fact, if you plan to show your cavy, the more of these “cow licks” the better. The more specialized term for these is rosettes. In shows, the rosettes are counted, and 8 seems to be the magic number, at least it was when the resource book I’m using was published.
There is another breed of guinea pig called the sheltie that was recognized as a breed in 1973. It’s a variety of the Peruvian, but has hair that differs from that breed. Its coat is also long, however, and requires more care than the short haired type of pig.
A guinea pig charm in sterling silver would certainly single you out as a lover of this distinctive little rodent, but in a rather more subtle way than a pair of earrings or a pendant of this little guy would.
I have a charming mouse as a silver charm, too. He and the others at silver small pet charms home give you lots of small animal jewelry choices.
