Description: At one time it was thought that there were two different species of chinchillas since the ones at higher altitudes had smaller ears and a short tail. However, some smart person came along and pointed out the fact that animals that are in a colder climate tend to have shorter ears and tails for the simple reason that they need to conserve body heat. (Heat can be lost through the ears and the tail.)
Even mice that are raised in a cooler temperature have shorter tails.
There is no water source in the chinchillas habitat, so they rely on dew and moisture that they collect from the grasses and herbs that they consume.
Since Mama chinchilla is the leader of the family unit, what she says, goes. The poor little male doesn’t have a chance. She is the bigger of the two and always wins any fight.
For some unknown reason, chinchillas like to roll around in the sand. The theory of why they do this is for a grooming reason. I think it probably just feels good.
It is my pleasure to present this sterling silver chinchilla charm- I hope you find it appealing!
